Local Union 67 Supports Plumbing Program Expansion

March 08, 2012

Sheridan will boast a new plumbing lab and an expanded program thanks to a generous gift from the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada. The $165,000 donation also includes student scholarship funds.

The demand for skilled trades people in Canada is growing and the plumbing field is no exception. Sheridan’s Mechanical Techniques – Plumbing Program entered its second year in September 2011 at capacity with 151 students and a long waitlist. With its excellent instructors, superior equipment and high rating among employers, the program already stands out and the expanded facility will serve to further heighten its reputation. Plans centre on enlarging the plumbing lab area to include an additional classroom and provide the space and equipment to offer a high-quality 2-year diploma, Level 3 Apprenticeship program.

In addition to the $150,000 funding for facility expansion, Local Union 67 has donated $15,000 in entrance scholarships for students in the Mechanical Techniques - Plumbing and Welding Techniques programs.
