Library Techniques Alumni Return to Campus

December 05, 2011

Graduates of the Library Techniques program gathered to reconnect with old friends on November 17th at the Trafalgar Campus Library. Held in conjunction with Library Awareness Week which occurs every Fall, the reunion featured a presentation from Sheridan’s own Director of Library Services, Joan Sweeney Marsh. She explored the relevance of libraries in today’s modern technology-focused world in her presentation entitled Libraries in the Age of Facebook: May I Be Your Friend?

Sheridan’s Director of Library Services for the past 18 months, Joan began her career as an Arts Librarian at the Toronto Reference Library before moving into one of the first Electronic Resources positions within the Toronto Public Library. Her extensive experience also includes nearly a decade as Manager of Library and Resource Services at the Toronto Star, and two years as Director, Learning Support Services at McMaster University.

Before Joan’s presentation, guests were treated to a wine and cheese reception and a tour of the new Learning Commons.

Although it has been many years since their graduation day – the Library Techniques program was discontinued in 2000 – the group of 21 tight-knit alumni were clearly delighted to be “back to class” to recall old memories and share current and future plans. Thank you to Joan and everyone who came out to the event.
