Helping Women Think Differently

June 24, 2013

Put yourself first. That was the overall message from the seventh annual Journey 2 Success Conference held by Company of Women on May 28.

“Women are often so focused on their business and pleasing other people, they don’t take time to re-energize and do something for themselves,” said Anne Day (Family Day Care, 1980) founder of Company of Women and key organizer of the event which was themed Creativity, Courage, Connectivity.

Sheridan alumna Linda Lundstrom (Fashion Design and Techniques, 1972), and Ginger Grant (Sheridan Business Professor) were among the speakers who shared their thoughts on tapping creativity ability with 215 business women in Oakville.

Ginger is Professor of Marketing and Innovation and Managing Partner of Creativity in Business Canada Inc. She is the only Canadian on the consultant team for the Stanford Business School “Creativity and Business” program.

Award-winning Canadian fashion designer, Linda Lundstrom who came back from bankruptcy to reinvent herself in 2012, told the audience that operating a successful business can be just as stressful as being at the helm when times are tough.

Additional speakers spanning generations of creative women shared the unique challenges they faced on their route to success. The line-up included Trey Anthony (Playwright), Fay Chapple (CEO of The Clarity Centre) and keynote speaker, Barb Stegemann (CEO, The 7 Virtues Beauty Inc.)

With its introspective focus, this year’s Journey 2 Success Conference offered business women the opportunity to reflect on their professional and personal lives, and the resolve to make some positive changes, said Anne.

“It was a very powerful day. I received emails from participants - mainly from the corporate world - who called the event ‘life-changing’.”

Company of Women connects and supports women entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs both professionally and personally. With over 300 members in six chapters across the GTA, Company of Women will open its seventh chapter in Winnipeg this fall.

The 2014 Journey 2 Success Conference will be held May 27.
