Connect-Share-Inspire: An Evening of Engagement

June 22, 2012

Alumni emerged inspired and energized from a presentation by performance coach Steffany Hanlen on June 13 at the Hazel McCallion Campus. The evening was proudly hosted by the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies Alumni Board of Directors.

Grads from a cross-section of programs welcomed the chance to reconnect and rekindle their motivation for their important work in community service, health care, early childhood education and more. The event also attracted business alumni interested in forging new contacts with their alma mater. Capping off the evening was a tour of the new campus for a very enthusiastic group of alumni and friends.

Steffany Hanlen has been helping people reach their goals for 25 years, from NHL hockey players and Olympic athletes, to business owners and community service professionals.

Steffany began her career as a Power Skating Coach, eventually becoming the NHL’s only paid female skating coach under contract in 1991. She was also the first performance coach accredited by the Canadian Olympic Committee, allowing her to accompany the Canadian Champion Ice Dancers on the sideboards at the 2006 Olympic Games. Steffany applies her methodology for training world class athletes to coaching others from all professions who want to be the best they can be.

Here’s a snapshot of the winning strategies she shared with alumni.

TO REACH YOUR OWN “PODIUM OF SUCCESS”, ASK YOURSELF:

  • Am I aware of who I am and what I truly want?
  • Am I willing to do whatever it takes?
  • Am I ready to take the steps in all areas of my life to have the success I say I want?
  • Am I credible? What rumours need to be spread about me?
  • Is it success as I define it?
