California Connection - LA Bound

September 23, 2010

Grads living in LA joined DreamWorks Animation SKG alumni in Glendale, California to recall old Sheridan memories and honour a fellow alumnus this summer. The “Stay Connected” Animation Alumni Event on July 28 allowed us to introduce Sheridan’s new President, Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, to our California grads and formally acknowledge a $25,000 contribution from DreamWorks and Jeffery Katzenberg to the Glenn McQueen Memorial Bursary Fund* for Sheridan animation students.

The Fund is dedicated to the life and work of gifted animator Glenn McQueen (’84) who passed away in 2002. All proceeds from the event were directed towards the Bursary Fund. Among the evening’s special guests were Terry McQueen (Glenn’s wife), Rex Grignon (Head of Character Animation) and Tim Johnson (Executive Producer at Dream Works), and Mark Choy (Animation '96), creator of the Fund. Glenn McQueen is nominated for a 2010 Premier's Award.

Jeff Zabudsky, Angela Stukator, Associate Dean of the School of Animation, Arts and Design, and the Alumni Office were also delighted to meet with grads at Disney Animation on July 27. A Sheridan coffee break (yes, with Tim’s coffee), was held at Disney and was part of several industry meetings and a visit to Siggraph 2010.
