Big Picture Gala an All Canadian Success

November 16, 2012

The night was filled with the sights and sounds of “All Things Canadian” at Sheridan’s 2012 Big Picture Gala last month. Over 560 business and community leaders, including many alumni, gathered to celebrate exceptional education, people and achievement at the Canadian-themed fundraising event on October 18th.

The fabulous live music, video presentations and one-of-a-kind auction items featured throughout the evening showcased the outstanding talent and creativity of Sheridan students, faculty and alumni. Our musical theatre students truly rocked the room with their renditions of Canuck classics, old and new. Kudos, as well, to the many alumni and faculty who donated to the Silent Auction, always a high point of the gala.

Sheridan also welcomed the support of many alumni donors as guests of the event which was held at the Mississauga Convention Centre. We congratulate one of those illustrious graduates, Michael Cloutier (Business Marketing, 1979), President and CEO of the Canadian Diabetes Association, who won the Big Picture Raffle prize: a trip for two to Quebec.

We were honoured to present Tim Hortons with Sheridan’s 2012 Big Picture Award which recognizes innovators in business, technology, community services and the arts. Sheridan is well-known to Tim Hortons, which has hired many of our graduates over the years.

“Not only is Tim Hortons a leader in its field, sharing our vision of creativity, excellence, and community involvement; it is also an iconic Canadian corporation,” says Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, President and CEO of Sheridan.

Many corporate partners made a strong commitment to the gala through sponsorships and we thank each of them for making Sheridan a priority. A special “Big Picture” note of gratitude goes out to our lead sponsors for their tremendous support:

Presenting Sponsor, Bird Construction
Bird Construction is one of Canada's top 10 national general contractors and the builder of Sheridan’s Hazel McCallion Campus which has become a focal point of the Mississauga City Centre.

Event Sponsor, Campus Living Centres
A long-time supporter of Sheridan, Campus Living Centres is committed to delivering an exceptional student experience by fostering a vibrant and supportive residence community.

Among the many notable guests at the 2012 Big Picture Gala (Sheridan’s fifth) was keynote speaker, John Tory, NEWSTALK1010 radio host and former leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario.

Proceeds from the event support Sheridan students, including investment in campus expansions, program and technology improvements, and academic awards and scholarships.
