Alumni shorts to world premiere at Hot Docs

April 24, 2018

Christopher Greef’s Carousel and Chrisann Hessing’s Turning Tables are among the shorts that will world premiere at the 2018 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Hot Docs is the largest documentary festival in North America. It runs from April 26 to May 6.
In Turning Tables, Hessing (Media Arts ’15) tells the story of techno pioneer Joshua DePerry, also known as Classic Roots. A Toronto-based music producer and DJ, DePerry integrates the sounds of his Anishinaabe heritage with electronic and house music, redefining what it means to be urban and Indigenous.
Elsewhere, in Carousel, Greef (Media Arts ‘15) investigates his deceased father’s history as a pornographer and how it affected his estranged brother.
Carousel was produced by Moonage Studios — a production company founded by four filmmakers who met at Sheridan.
Both docs will screen as part of Hot Docs’ shorts program “Below the Surface.” The program features four films in total.
