HELSINKI: The Chaos Theory

Alumna writing Orphan Black comic book series

December 09, 2015

Heli Kennedy (Advanced Television and Film, 2008) is writing a new 5-issue comic book series based on the award-winning Sci-Fi TV show Orphan Black, for IDW Publishing. The first issue, HELSINKI: The Chaos Theory (pictured right) debuted in November with the next issue scheduled to hit the shelves the last week of December. (Image above: Corbyn Kern).

IDW Publishing had previously published an Orphan Black comic book series but it was focused on pre-existing characters, their backstories and unseen moments from specific plot lines on the show, says Heli. Keen for a stand-alone comic series that was also tightly tied to the show’s plot, co-creator John Fawcett chose to explore “The Helsinki Protocol” - a gruesome event referenced on the show, but never fully explained. Thus, the ORPHAN BLACK: HELSINKI series was born, explains Heli. “Going back to 2001, we get to tell stories that would be impossible to do on TV, while introducing new characters and exposing secrets about well-known characters Tatiana Maslany plays on the show.”

This latest series also serves to tie the books into the up-coming fourth season, she adds. “We are introducing new clone characters, along with more mystery and bloodshed. I’m having a great time working on this dark noir project!”

One issue of ORPHAN BLACK: HELSINKI is released every month until March, 2016.

IDW Publishing is holding an Orphan Black Art Contest
