A Funtastic Day at Sheridan

February 26, 2010

Bestselling author, Tina Powell, returned to Sheridan late last year to share her stories with children from the Trafalgar Campus Child Care Centres.

Based in Vancouver, Tina (Marketing ’83) was in Ontario promoting her sixth children’s book, Fernando's Fun-tastic Friends, about a boy who would rather play video games than stay active. She will bring her healthy lifestyle message to schools in 10 U.S. cities next year.

After years as a business journalist and advertising copywriter, Tina rekindled her passion for children’s literature following the birth of her own children. Tina’s 16-year-old daughter attended the Trafalgar Child Care Centre when Tina launched her career as a children’s author.

Tina’s books quickly became bestsellers and she eventually launched own publishing company in 2004. Through her corporate publishing program, she has reached over 600,000 children and worked with companies such as Boar’s Head Provisions, Canada Bread and Procter & Gamble.

When she began writing children’s stories “children, teachers and parents reacted with such enthusiasm, I knew it was only a matter of time before opportunities would open up for me,” says Tina.
