The Sheridan Alumni Office is proud to welcome filmmaker and Sheridan graduate John Christou (Advanced Television and Film, 2002) on campus for an exclusive screening of his film Rhymes for Young Ghouls.

The film was named one of Canada’s Top Ten Films of 2013 by the Toronto International Film Festival. The film also received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Actress. Produced by John Christou, the film takes place in 1976 against the backdrop of the residential school tragedy. Red Crow Mi'g Maq reservation: By government decree, every Indian child under the age of 16 must attend residential school. In the kingdom of the Crow, that means imprisonment at St. Dymphna's; being at the mercy of "Popper", the sadistic Indian agent who runs the school.

At 35, John Christou is already a veteran of the Canadian film industry, with over a dozen productions under his belt. John’s other credits include the Genie Award-winning film Up the Yangtze! and the TIFF-awarded short, The Colony. He was also named one of the Top 20 Canadian Media Executives under 35 by The Hollywood Reporter in 2013.

Come meet John Christou and watch Rhymes for Young Ghouls, a tale that uses the tragic history of the residential school system as a backdrop for a dark coming-of-age film.
