The Sheridan Alumni Office is proud to welcome Richie Mehta (Advanced Television and Film, 2002) and Steven Bray (Media Arts, 2002), back on campus for the exclusive screening of Siddharth.

This is Mehta’s second feature film which had its world premiere at the 70th Venice International Film Festival last summer. Siddharth is written, directed and edited by Richie Mehta, produced by Steven Bray, David Miller and Richie Mehta, and co-edited by Stuart McIntyre (Advanced Television and Film, 2002).

Siddharth has received the SIGNIS Award - Special Mention at the Hong Kong International Film Festival 2014, the Tiantian Award for Best Picture at the Beijing Film Festival 2014 and the 2014 Heartland Film Festival Award for Best Narrative Feature.

About Siddharth:

After sending away his 12 year-old son Siddharth for work, Mahendra (a chain-wallah who fixes broken zippers on the streets) is relieved – his financial burdens will be alleviated. But when Siddharth fails to return home, Mahendra learns he may have been taken by child-traffickers. With little resources and no connections, he travels across India in pursuit, with the hope that whatever force arbitrarily took his child away will return him unharmed.

Siddharth is a suspenseful and insightful drama that explores the difficulties of life for the poor and undereducated in India. Mehta has successfully crafted a film that gives the viewers a real sense of location and family—he takes you into the Saini family's world, from living in their very small apartment to working on the busy streets of New Delhi. Despite the film's harsh realities, Mehta successfully stays clear of preaching to the audience and simply allows the film to live and breathe.
