What Will I Learn/Do?
You’ll be taking three courses: one that will make you aware of electrical codes, one that will allow you to develop and practice real workplace skills in Sheridan’s well-designed and equipped shop setting and one course that will teach you how to stay safe in the workplace.

Residential Prints & Standards
This is a theory-based course.
Residential Installations
Students develop the skills and knowledge required to plan, layout and safely execute the electrical installation of a typical home. Students interpret the symbols on schematic diagrams and electrical layout diagrams and match these to typical real-world devices. Students develop the skills required for safe and correct electrical connections. During construction projects, students plan, layout and build the electrical installation of a typical home safely and competently with basic building materials and tools common in residential construction.
Electrical Trade Safety
Students are taught how to stay safe in a potentially dangerous environment. Students will learn about the common causes of workplace accidents, how to foresee and prevent them from happening. Personal and workplace safety including Lifts, ladders, harnesses and explosive tools.
Industrial Electronic Devices 1
Students learn the fundamentals of designing and creating electronic circuits. Students gain experience by being introduced to a variety of electronic components. Students gain hands-on experience by integrating their components into a variety of circuits. Students examine a variety of power supplies and electrical measuring tools to analyze their circuits.
Pathways to Full Time Sheridan Programs:
Your dual credit program offers you the chance to get a head start on the full time one-year Electrical Techniques program, which offers an Ontario College Certificate. If you apply and are offered admission to this full-time program, the courses you successfully earned in your dual credit program will be counted as completed.

Sheridan is recognized for excellence in skilled trades instruction. Our graduates have an outstanding track record, and employers seek them out for electrical apprenticeships. The one-year Electrical Techniques certificate program is the gateway to a full electrician apprenticeship. You may also want to continue your education in related engineering programs at Sheridan. You will receive credit for any courses successfully completed in the Electrical Techniques program that are in the selected engineering program.
