Domestic Work Study Program

The Domestic Work Study Program supports part-time and full-time Sheridan student positions for eligible students. Students must apply for the Work Study Program each term and may be approved for one Sheridan employer.

The Financial Aid & Awards Office offers two Work Study options:

  • Part-time employment
  • Full-time employment

Part-time employment

Students may work up to 24 hours per week.

Eligibility requirements include:

  1. Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or a Protected Person.
  2. Registered in an undergraduate or graduate program.
  3. Demonstrate financial need: Students receiving OSAP or Out-of-Province Financial Aid assistance are considered to have demonstrated financial need and the budget form is not required. Students who are not receiving OSAP or Out-of-Province Financial Aid must complete the budget form.
  4. Enrolment – students must be in good academic standing and meet one of the following criteria:
    • Student is enrolled in a minimum 40% credit load*
    • Student is between regularly scheduled academic terms with full time enrolment in the terms prior and subsequent to the part-time employment term, or student is employed in a full-time co-op position with a non-Sheridan employer; a copy of the student’s Confirmation of Employment must be submitted with their Work Study application.

*If a student drops below 40% enrolment after receiving Work Study approval, a denial email will be sent to the student and their employer to update the application status.

Full-time employment

Students must be available to work more than 24 hours per week.

Eligibility requirements include:

  1. Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or a Protected Person.
  2. Registered in an undergraduate or graduate program.
  3. Demonstrate financial need: Students receiving OSAP or Out-of-Province Financial Aid assistance are considered to have demonstrated financial need and the budget form is not required. Students who are not receiving OSAP or Out-of-Province Financial Aid must complete the budget form.
  4. Enrolment – students must be in good academic standing and meet one of the following criteria:
    • Student is completing their co-op semester with a Sheridan employer; a copy of the student's Confirmation of Employment must be submitted with their Work Study application,
    • Or student is employed in an Appendix G position (Spring/Summer term only) between regularly scheduled academic terms with full time enrolment in the terms prior and subsequent to the full-time employment term.

*Students may enrol in a part-time credit load – less than 60%

Students in joint programs

Students enrolled in joint programs are not eligible for Work Study through Sheridan. Students may inquire about the Work Study Program at their collaborative school.

Applying to the Work Study Program

Step 1. Apply for a Sheridan student position via Sheridan Works.

Step 2. Once you secure a position, fill out the Work Study application.

Step 3. Have your employer fill out their section of the application.

Step 4. Submit your completed Work Study application.

Step 5. Check your Sheridan student email account to find out if your application has been approved.

Applications are available in alternate formats upon request by contacting workstudy@sheridancollege.ca

Applications are processed beginning two weeks before the start of each term. The deadline to apply is stated on the Work Study application and is approximately four weeks from the start of classes each term.

Information for employers

Work Study positions should be posted through the Sheridan Career Centre, via Sheridan Works.

Work Study pay period coverage: 16 weeks from the first day of term

Due to the financial need requirement of the Work Study Program, students must apply for Work Study each term and demonstrate their continued eligibility for the program. A student can be Work Study approved for one employer per term.

Students (or employers) submit the 2-page Work Study application to workstudy@sheridancollege.ca. Employers are required to complete the "To be completed by employer" section of the application.

It is the hiring department's responsibility to forward completed Payroll forms to the Payroll office. Please contact payroll@sheridancollege.ca for assistance.

The Financial Aid and Awards Office will notify both the student applicant and employer of the Work Study application status via Sheridan email.

Fall 2021 reimbursement & timeline details

Part-time employment

  • Students hired for part-time student positions are eligible for Work Study funding in the Fall 2021 term.
  • The maximum reimbursement for part-time positions for the Fall 2021 term is $2,000 including vacation and fringe.
  • The Work Study coverage period is September 7 – December 24, 2021.
  • The deadline to submit Work Study applications is October 1, 2021.

Full-time employment (Co-op/Internship)

  • Students employed in a Co-op or Internship position are eligible for Work Study funding in the Fall 2021 term.
  • The maximum reimbursement for Co-op/Internship positions for the Fall 2021 term is $6,500 including vacation and fringe.
  • The Work Study coverage period is September 7 – December 24, 2021.
  • The deadline to submit Work Study applications is October 1, 2021.

Departmental cost transfers for Work Study

Each department's Budget Holder will be sent an email from workstudy@sheridancollege.ca with a prepared departmental cost transfer for approval. The information confirms data pulled from the Payroll database.
