Applying for Advanced Standing

Advanced Standing Requests

Sheridan recognizes that some students who enter a program at the College will have earned post-secondary credits at other recognized post-secondary institutions (college or university) and may wish to apply these credits towards their Sheridan credential. Advanced Standing refers to the transferring of credit earned at another recognized post-secondary institution towards the program requirements of a Sheridan credential.

To begin the online application, students must enter their myStudentCentre using Sheridan credentials (username and password).

Once inside myStudentCentre, students must select “Transfer Credit Request. Students must follow the cues and instructions on the screen as they proceed through the application process.

Courses put forward for General Elective advanced standing:

  • Must have a minimum of C grade (60%)
  • Must be non-vocational (this means they cannot be profession-specific)
  • Must not be skills-based (for example, language or math courses)
  • Cannot overlap with core program courses (i.e. If a program requires Psych Core Concepts, students cannot use introductory psych courses to satisfy their open General Elective course requirement).
  • Should be rooted in core academic areas such as psychology, sociology, philosophy, history, literature, humanities, or interdisciplinary studies etc.
  • All courses will be evaluated for these characteristics using the course outline provided during the application process.
