Joanne Buckley has a B.A. in English and French from Wilfrid Laurier University and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in English and a Masters in Education from The University of Western Ontario, a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from University of Saskatchewan and a certificate in Learning Strategies from Cambrian College. She has taught in college and in university for the past 30 years. She has worked both at The University of Western Ontario and at McMaster University in various roles, as a professor in English literature and language and in Multimedia and Communications. She has taught a variety of courses, including Romantic poetry, Victorian Literature, Children’s Literature. Her repertoire of writing courses includes a course called Writing in the Electronic Age, courses in writing and speaking for ESL students, and Technical Writing. She is a lifelong learner who has taken and taught a variety of courses online. She has also been English Usage Specialist and the head of a writing program at Western as well as the editor of *TEXT Technology,*a journal specializing in electronic text, at McMaster. Most recently, she has been an academic counsellor and a counsellor for students with disabilities. She is the author of a number of textbooks used widely throughout Canada, including *Fit to Print*, a writing textbook now in its 8th edition, *Checkmate: The Pocket Guide* and *Checkmate, *a reference handbook for writers, now in their 3rd edition. She has taught at Sheridan College since 2003.
