Professor, Accounting

Sally Mitzel has been with Sheridan College as a full-time faculty member since 2002 and has been the Co-ordinator of the Accounting programs since 2006. She also holds the position of Co-ordinator for the Accounting and Finance courses in Continuing and Professional Studies. Her professional accounting experience includes public accounting with BDO Canada and KPMG (formerly Thorne Riddell) in the areas of audit and cross-border taxation of individuals and corporations and her industry experience was garnered in the oil and gas industry in Alberta. Sally lends her academic expertise to the examination committee of a professional accounting association and offers her time and talents to a variety of not-for-profit organizations in the Oakville area, where she holds the position of Treasurer or Board Member/Advisor.  These positions provide hands-on experience that she uses to enrich the class-room experience for her students.

She is presently the Faculty Advisor to the Accounting Student Association at the HMC campus and prior to 2012 was the Faculty Advisor at the Trafalgar campus. She was also the coach to the Sheridan teams that have competed annually since 2010 in the CGA Ontario Accounting Case Competition. Sally instructs upper-year courses in financial accounting and taxation.

She experiences the greatest satisfaction in her role as mentor and advisor and in seeing her students achieve their potential in their personal life or professional career.
