Janet Young

Professor

Janet Young is a partial load professor for the Pilon School of Business and has previously taught for the Continuing and Professional Studies. She has been with Sheridan for the past 6 years as a professor teaching first year students in Computer Applications and Using Business Information Systems courses as well as teaching for the Office Administration Legal, Executive and Medical streams. For 2 years she coordinated the Computer Applications first year course working with over 15 part time professors and developing ongoing curriculum design, delivery and implementation of various in class, online and eLearning activities. She was also responsible for the Advanced Standing for this course. Janet has a passion for helping students develop a love for technology and problem solving through designing course curriculum, lectures and activities that foster real world experiences and conceptual learning as well as working with coworkers in an open environment in order to share resources, knowledge and continuous course improvements.

Before teaching in the classroom Janet started out at Sheridan working with HR as the technical trainer for Sheridan staff - she designed training curriculum, courses and materials for MS Office software products and in house Sheridan applications. She also assisted with  the development, training, and delivery of Sheridan wide roll outs with Marcom and the Sitecore CMS for website content management along with the Sheridan PeopleSoft rollout.

Prior to coming to Sheridan Janet worked for over 10 years as an IT Recruiter, Training Project Manager, Team Lead, Technical Editor and Corporate Trainer for several Toronto based IT companies working mainly within the technology industry. She worked with companies, clients and contractors in all sectors throughout North American assisting them with their computer software training requirements, manual design, companywide implementations, online course design and staffing/recruiting needs. She also brings a strong counselling background that she developed working for many years with ex-offenders at the John Howard Society as well as At Risk youth. She counselled them on personal, emotional, physical, employment and social issues and worked with them to overcome barriers in order to achieve their goals. She holds a double major B.A. from York University in Psychology and Law and Society along with a Graduate Certificate in Psychometrics.
