Fred Douglas

Professor, Marketing

In 1969, Fred graduated from Computer Science at UWO to enter a brand new era in business: Data Processing. Over the next 18 years he worked for several major U.S.-based, global companies such as IBM (International Business Machines) and NCR (National Cash Register) in product programming and marketing support roles; as well as 3M in their IT functional group. Fred’s roles changed from computer programming and systems design, to marketing and sales when he attained his MBA from UWO in 1974. In 1987 he joined a Canadian start-up company, TDSi (Transact Data Systems Inc.) and its’ sister company, SHNS (Shared Health Network Services), in offering their banking and insurance clients a revolutionary on-line, real-time network service for credit card and health claim transactions. As a key executive, he helped grow this into an EDI service for companies shipping goods across country borders; TDNI (Transact Data Network Services). These were consolidated into SNS Systems (Shared Network Services) and eventually sold to BCE Emergis (Bell Canada Enterprises internet-based E-commerce division) in 1999. Fred ensured a smooth transition over the next few years and then joined Sheridan in the School of Business in 2003. Since then Fred has been a professor, course developer and leader, and program co-ordinator in the E-commerce Management and Marketing programs.
