Professor, Marketing

Doug Greenwood has over two decades of private sector experience primarily in the foodservice distribution industry.  He also worked as a professional consultant to private business and as a government relations consultant.  As Vice President of Procurement and Marketing at Finlay Greenwood Inc. he was responsible for all marketing, purchasing, IT and Human Resources activities at the company.  His career as a government relations consultant began initially at Hill and Knowlton and then as the principle in Doug Greenwood and Associates.  

His career at Sheridan College began in 1997 as a part time instructor and he was hired full time in 2000 and became coordinator of the Business Administration Marketing Program as well as the post graduate Marketing Management program in 2002 and 2003 respectively.  He held both positions for a period of eight years.  He continues to coordinate the post graduate program which in 2013 completed the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities’ Program Review initiative.  The program was ranked as “exceeds expectations” by both the external reviewers involved.  Doug has also written and taught numerous courses in both the post-graduate and undergraduate marketing programs at Sheridan.

Doug has sat on numerous committees at Sheridan over many years including college wide bodies such as the: Student Retention Committee; Strategic Planning Review Group and; the Formative Faculty Assessment Committee among many others.  He has also been a member of numerous School of Business committees including: Academic Dishonesty Review; Foundation Year Curriculum Review and; the Mississauga Campus Relocation Committee.  He has also sat on numerous faculty hiring selection committees as well as the hiring committees for various associate deans and deans.

Doug was nominated for the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) Program Excellence Award in in 2006, nominated again in the Teaching Excellence Category in 2008 and was awarded the ACCC Gold Medal for Teaching Excellence in 2010.

Doug has also won multiple medals in the province wide Ontario Colleges’ Marketing Competition (OCMC) as the coach of Sheridan’s Entrepreneurship event.   He served as the manager of Sheridan’s overall OCMC team effort for a number of years.  He held the senior organizational role for Sheridan’s effort as the OCMC Host College in 2010.   He held the position of chair of the provincial board in 2011 the year after Sheridan hosted the event which is in keeping with OCMC board procedure.  Doug was also the 2011 recipient of the OCMC Award of Excellence which is presented annually to the person or college who has demonstrated commitment and outstanding care for the OCMC event over an extended period of time.  

Doug was profiled in Sheridan’s “Ovation” magazine in fall 2008. 

Doug is a currently a member of the Sheridan Senate and he also sits on the School of Business Local Academic Committee (LAC) and on the LAC sub-committee on teaching and learning.  He was also elected in 2014 to serve as a union steward in Local 244 of OPSEU.

Doug holds a BA from the University of Toronto (1989), with a dual major in political science and history and a minor in economics and he also holds an MBA from the University of Cumbria where he graduated with distinction (2013).
