Sidonie Bell

Sidonie Bell

Professor, School of Applied Computing

Sidonie Bell has been a professor of mathematics in the Faculty of Applied Science & Technology (FAST) since 2010. Prior to joining FAST, she was also (and still is, since 2006) a professor of mathematics, statistics, career planning, and success strategies at Seneca College, in the Faculty of Business. She also volunteers as a college coach and is a mentor for first-semester students at Seneca.

Sidonie earned both a master’s of science in public sector management and a bachelor of science in pure and applied chemistry at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. She also has a post-diploma certificate in human resources management from Seneca College.

Prior to emigrating to Canada, Sidonie held several positions in Jamaica: executive assistant to the vice-president of finance at the University of Technology; science curriculum developer, academic upgrading project for HEART, National Training Agency of Jamaica; senior scientific officer, Jamaica Bureau of Standards Science and Technology Division; head of the asset management department, Jamaica Bureau of Standards; head of the science department, St. Andrew Technical High School.

While working at the Jamaica Bureau of Standards, Sidonie was technical secretary for the National Standards Committee mandated to drafting national standards for transit and export packaging. She was also the recipient of two separate fellowships to study in Japan, where she studied plastic technology at the Osaka Municipal Technical Research Institute and total quality management and standardization activities at Japan Standards Association. She is a past member of the Jamaica Society for Quality and a founding member of the Jamaica JICA Alumni Association.

In her role as senior scientific officer, she has presented several in-house and company-wide training seminars in packaging technology, quality control and ISO 9000 & Standardization activities.

As an educator and science teacher, she successfully prepared students to gain top awards at national science exhibitions. In addition, she has presented technical papers at science exhibitions hosted by Jamaica Scientific Research Council. She also worked as quality controller at Celestica Inc. and coordinated a number of IT projects at the Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF) in Toronto.

An avid sports enthusiast, Sidonie lives in Mississauga with her husband, son and daughter.
