Mike Dancziger

Michael  Dancziger

Professor, School of Applied Chemical and Environmental Sciences

Michael Dancziger completed his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Illinois in 1980.  Working at Barringer Research in Toronto, he then did research in developing new kinds of chemical instrumentation.  This included projects such as developing a novel type of detector for gas chromatography, airborne detection of hydrocarbons over marine seeps, and remote sensing of underground ore bodies.

In 1989, he moved to Barringer Laboratories in Mississauga where he acted as a UNIX System Administrator and maintained the laboratory’s computer network.  He also implemented the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), a database that accumulates, stores and reports all of the laboratory’s data.  In 1992, he took on the role of Quality Assurance Manager for the Mississauga laboratory.  In this capacity, he was responsible for maintaining the laboratory’s accreditations with the Canadian Association of Environmental Analytical Laboratories (Canada) and the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (U.S.).  He maintained the Quality System Manual, Standard Operating Procedures for the analytical methods and analyst training records.  He was responsible for completing internal audits on sample handling and method procedures.  He was also involved in getting the laboratory licensed to analyze samples under the Ontario Ministry of the Environment’s Drinking Water regulations.

In 2003, Michael began teaching part-time at the postsecondary level.  He has taught chemistry and quality management at colleges in and around the GTA, including Georgian College, Humber College and Centennial College.  He has also enjoyed being a presenter with Scientists in School, a non-profit organization that does science outreach to students from kindergarten to grade 8.

Since 2011, he has been a full time Professor in the Chemical/Environmental cluster of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology at the Davis Campus of Sheridan, teaching subjects including general and analytical chemistry, mathematics, physics, and electricity.  In 2013, he became a Program Coordinator for the chemical programs.
