Daniel Liao

Daniel  Liao

Associate Dean, School of Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship

Daniel Liao obtained his Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Engineering degrees from the University of Toronto, with a major in chemical engineering.

Following graduation from his MEng, Daniel held the positions of Process Engineer, Pilot Plant Manager and Research Associate while employed at SunOpta BioProcess Inc., Mascoma Corp., and the University of Toronto, respectively. His work at SunOpta BioProcess and Mascoma resulted in four patent applications and a peer-reviewed publication in the field of cellulosic biofuels productions processes. His appointment as Research Associate at the University of Toronto allowed him to make significant engineering contributions to the university’s involvement in “Reinvent the Toilet Challenge”, a high-profile project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation aimed at creating a low-cost, high-tech sanitation system for the developing world.

Daniel first joined Sheridan in 2014 as the Chemical Laboratories Manager. During his time at the Lab Manager, Daniel transformed the state-of-the-art Chemical and Environmental Labs at Davis Campus into an applied research hub that partners with industry to offer opportunities for students to solve real-life problems or develop innovative technologies for grant-funded projects.

Daniel is currently the Associate Dean of the School of Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship, and is a licensed professional engineer in the Province of Ontario.
