Austin Tian

Professor, School of Applied Computing

Austin Yuxin Tian joined Sheridan College’s Faculty of Applied Science and Technology in 2011. He teaches courses in electronics and computer engineering. He enjoys working with students to explore theoretical as well as practical problems and find solutions. His teaching goal is to help students prepare for the rapidly changing industrial environment.

Prior to coming to Sheridan, Austin taught for several years at Texas A&M University in the United States. He also worked as a software engineer and consultant for a global industrial refrigeration and air-conditioning manufacturer, and was a researcher in electrical engineering labs at several recognized universities in the United States and China.

Austin has led the design of the store controller system that is used within major supermarkets of North America and Europe. He holds a patent of the intelligent electric utility consumption management system, which was widely used in northeast China.

Austin’s professional areas of interest include college- and university-level teaching, state-of-the-art energy-efficient system controllers, internet application software design, web development, sensor networks, Internet of Things (IoT) applications and embedded system design.

Austin is a member of Professional Engineers Ontario. He holds a master’s degree in computer engineering from Texas A&M University, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, USA and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University, China.
