2018 Capstone Showcase

Every year a new group of students enter their final year in the School of Applied Computing. For those in the Systems Analyst and Software Development Network Engineering programs, they get the unique and cumulative experience of working on a Capstone project, a comprehensive project completed over the course of their final year of the program. Capstones are integrated with the curriculum, allow student teams to engage with an industry partner to develop a technology solution to a non-trivial problem. They're a hands-on opportunity to work directly with industry to generate a real solution to a real problem.

Systems Analyst (SA) Capstones

This year, there were a total of 14 Systems Analyst projects completed by students at both the Trafalgar and Davis campuses. The top four projects were determined by faculty, and those four teams were invited to present at the annual Systems Analyst Capstone Project Competition, a significant milestone that showcases their remarkable work.

Adjudicated by a panel of six industry professionals, all teams should be extremely proud of their accomplishments. Having worked tirelessly to overcome the inherent challenges presented when working on such projects, the judges were truly impressed with their professionalism, knowledge, skills and quality of work.

This year’s Systems Analyst Capstone Winning team was Team RADS with their Amazon Echo Application to Manage Meetings. Team members included Raj Patel, Saloni Panchal, Dejoun Robinson and Anthony Rella.

Software Development Network Engineering (SDNE) Capstones

Sheridan’s third-year Software Development and Network Engineering students showcased their year-long Capstone projects in a marketplace-style event on December 7th at the Trafalgar Conference Centre. All teams developed impressive solutions which reflected their dedication, knowledge and skill. Software projects included a sensor monitoring platform, project management database, social media tool to unite coding communities, and a facial recognition system.

The entire SDNE cohort worked very hard all year, and the results of their efforts are nothing short of spectacular. Congratulations to each and every team, and we wish all members of the graduating class continued success. We'd like to congratulate the following SDNE Capstone winners:

Grand Prize Winners: Team Paccuin who developed an inventory management system designed specifically for home stagers.

Honourable Mention: Team Try Catch with EduCounsellor, a diverse platform that aims to simplify the decision process for students choosing their post secondary education.

Honourable Mention: Team Budgetize who developed a budgeting portal allowing McDonald's franchise owners (and their employees) the ability to monitor all cash flow in real-time.

Sincere thanks to the faculty members who supported the students though their learning journey and a huge congratulations to all teams who competed the Capstones. Lastly, a special 'shout-out' to the administrative staff who helped to plan and organize the Capstone Competition events
