2017 Systems Analyst Student Capstones

Every year, a new group of students arrive at Sheridan's Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, School of Applied Computing, as graduates move into the workforce. Few things are more rewarding for a faculty member than contrasting the inexperienced first year student with the innovative young graduate. It brings great pleasure to see the progression in students from when they first stepped into a Sheridan classroom to their graduation. It's the key reason that faculty members relish the ability to watch their students in a final Capstone showcase.

Capstone projects are comprehensive project assignments which are integrated into the Applied Computing curriculum and represent the cumulative work of a team of Sheridan students. Capstone projects are conducted over the course of an entire calendar year and are based on a real problem of a real client.

Sheridan’s Computer Systems Technology – Systems Analyst Annual Capstone Project Competition is a valuable milestone that showcases students' remarkable academic growth. The four teams were:

Team JavaBeans consisted of Taran Bariar, Davinder Biring, and Abha Rani and developed a Pest Control appointment CRM system.

Team Platinum Logic included Fahad Akhlaq, Kim Montes, and Brian Morris and they developed an interactive system for Museum articfacts.

ACK Design, the runner up, included Michael Alampi, Edward Crowder, Peter Kanarek and Darren Dyer developed a certification system for CIPS.

And last but not least, the winning team, G-Rated with Laura Martinez Guillen, Tanvi Pathak and Samantha Pennells. They developed a mobile application that took advantage of beacons for the City of Mississauga to help come a “Smart City” and provide interactive retail and visitor experiences for Port Credit.

Sincere thanks to the faculty members who supported the students though their learning journey and a huge congratulations to all teams who competed the Capstones. Lastly, a special 'shout-out' to the administrative staff who helped to plan and organize the Capstone Competition event.
