Peter's first Child and Youth job was over a summer at Thistletown Regional Centre. Peter then spent his next summer working in a day care, after graduating from the Institute of Child Study, part of the Faculty of Education at the University of Toronto. He has an undergraduate degree (B.A) in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Manitoba.

He worked with the Boys' Home in Toronto through the early 80’s, as a front line houseparent, house supervisor, school Child Youth Worker (CYW), and Manager of Clinical Services. From there, he moved to the Ministry of Children's Services to manage their Foster Care Program for the GTA. After a stint as a Youth Probation Officer, Peter moved to the SAFE-T (Sexual Abuse: Family Education and Treatment) Program as a Therapist, working with groups, couples, families, and individuals who had experienced sexual abuse.

As an Advocacy Officer with the Ministry of Children’s Services Office of the Child Advocate, he worked to ensure the rights of children in care were protected throughout the province.

In 2005, Peter moved to Sheridan College to build and establish the new Child and Youth Worker Program. He's taught first, second and third year courses, and is a proud member of the  Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care (OACYC).
