Sheridan’s school of education offers programs at the Oakville and Brampton campuses. We offer a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelor of Early Childhood Leadership Degree, and an Educational Support Diploma. We are proud of our high-calibre diploma and degree-level academic programs, our extensive community engagement and outreach, our vibrant student community, our growing Alumni community, and our exceptional faculty and staff.

ECE ACCC Affinity Conference

Sheridan ECE diploma and BECL degree faculty and staff participate at Childcare 2020 National Conference – From Vision to Action alongside early childhood educators, academics and researchers including Martha Friendly, Pierre Fortin, Michel Vandenbroeck, Bronwen Cohen, and Susan Prentice, policymakers and political representatives including Premier Kathleen Wynne, Olivia Chow, Carolyn Bennett, Thomas Mulcair, and Justin Trudeau, advocates including Ken Dryden and Steven Lewis, and parents--from urban, suburban, rural and Indigenous communities across Canada; all working together for a better system of early childhood education and care.

Our Faculty

Cathy Coulthard

Cathy Coulthard

Associate Dean, School of Education

Dr. Cathy Coulthard first joined Sheridan as a full time Professor in the Early Childhood Education programs in 2003. She holds a Ph.D in Applied Psychology and Human Development and is a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE). With more than 30 years of experience in a variety of roles in education programs across Ontario, Cathy's central interests revolve around the value of play, and play-based learning with the strong belief that play has the power to transform people. Cathy brings this belief in the transformational properties of play into her research involving the preservation and honouring of cultural, spiritual and linguistic traditions as integral to the optimal and healthy development of all people.

Program Coordinator and Professor, Early Childhood Leadership Degree program

Dhanna is a Professor of Early Childhood Education in FAHCS. She has over twenty years of work experience, which includes teaching and academic advising, as well as involvement in professional development, training and research initiatives. Though varied, her work experiences have been mainly focused on the adult learner. Dhanna has taught primarily at the community college level, of which the last twelve years have been at Sheridan as a teaching faculty member and academic advisor in the ECE programs.

Program Coordinator and Professor, Educational Support program

With extensive experience in the field of special education and youth mental health, Allison brings practical and theoretical knowledge to her classrooms. Allison engages students through activity-based and experiential learning tasks. As an artist, Allison further recognizes the crucial role creativity plays in making learning accessible for all students, and strives to create a learner-centred classroom. Allison is the project lead of the Educational Support Skills Passport, connecting students with community organizations for ongoing professional development and field-specific training.
