Renée Alleyn

Faculty, York University/Sheridan College Joint Program in Design


Renée Alleyn’s teaching is grounded both in design practice and critical theory. She has fifteen years of experience as an editorial and communications designer, working for a range of clients and at publications including Chatelaine, Toronto Life, and the National Post. She holds undergraduate degrees in graphic design (Ontario College of Art & Design) and women’s studies (University of Victoria).


Her Master’s degree in Communication and Culture (York University) saw her investigate the social and political positioning of magazines in Canada. She teaches undergraduate courses on diverse subjects including typography and type making, communication design, and design research, history, and studies. Her research interests investigate the intersection of type and designed communications with our experience of self and society.
