John Parker

Faculty, Art Fundamentals (on sabbatical)

John Parker studied Graphic Design at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, and then in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto where he obtained a Bachelor Science Degree in Art as Applied to Medicine (B.Sc. AAM).

As a Medical Illustrator, John has worked for several large teaching hospitals, including Sunnybrook Medical Centre (Toronto), Wellesley Hospital (Toronto), and the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group and Rehabilitation Centre (Ottawa). As a freelance Illustrator, John has worked for many large Canadian non-profit health organizations, crown corporations, and international pharmaceutical companies. In his capacity as Director of the Instructional Media Centre, he supervised a staff of twelve. This award-winning staff won several categories at the Canadian Public Health Award ceremonies held annually in Toronto. Clients of the center included every major health organization in Canada, and many of the largest crown corporations, including Ports Canada, Canadian Dairy Commission, Atomic Energy of Canada, Canada Mortgage and Housing, Conference Board of Canada, and the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. John continues to work as a consultant in areas of health promotion and education.

John taught for eleven years in the Illustration Program at Sheridan College, Oakville, Ontario. He presently teaches full-time in the Art Fundamentals program, where his courses include Basic Design, 2D Design, Life Drawing, Media, and Scientific Illustration.
