James Sayers graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design and then the University of Waterloo, graduating with a Master of Fine Arts degree, working with computer-animated film as a form of artistic expression. Established first as an award winning graphic designer he started working with graphic computers in the early 1980’s, which led him to a position teaching in Sheridan College’s Computer Graphics program in 1984. He became a full-time professor and founding member of the new (at the time) Computer Animation program in 1985, where he served as program coordinator for nearly twenty years. During his time as professor and coordinator, he spearheaded the development of two new programs in the department - Digital Character and Digital Visual Effects. In addition James has participated as a program advisor in the development and implementation of several degree and non-degree programs at Sheridan and at other Canadian and international educational institutions; has participated as a Program Advisory Member for the St. Lawrence College Graphic Design program; and has been a juror on funding submissions for the New Jersey Department of Higher Education Committee for Computers in the Arts. James’ animated works have shown in international festivals, as part of stage productions and in galleries in Canada and the U.S..
