Heather Whitton was appointed Associate Dean in the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design in 2007.  She provides academic leadership for the following programs: Bachelor of Interior Design, Bachelor of Craft and Design (Ceramics, Glass, Furniture, Textiles and Industrial Design), Visual & Creative Arts diploma and advanced diploma, Interior Decorating diploma, Visual Merchandising Arts diploma and Art Fundamentals certificate.

Heather holds a five year BFA degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA) with a major in Industrial Design and an M.Ed degree from Brock University with a specialization in curriculum studies. In addition, she completed courses in the certificate program in Adult Training and Development at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE).

Upon graduation from CIA, Heather practiced design at several Toronto firms before establishing her own graphic design consultancy. A few of her corporate clients included Marks and Spencer, Hudson’s Bay Company, Simpson’s, Fabergé and Corporate Foods among many others.

Before coming to Sheridan, Heather was employed at the Ontario College of Art & Design University (OCADU) She taught part time in the Faculty of Design and was appointed to the position of Assistant Dean. Heather later held the position of  Director of Continuing Studies where she created art and design programming for adult learners. She also established and managed a gallery at OCADU for professional artists and art associations.

Heather has been a member of a variety of academic associations. She has consulted on design education for the Design Exchange in Toronto and presently sits on the Design Advisory Committee for Harbourfront.
