Heather Morton is a professor in the Photography department with a specific emphasis in Theory, History, and, fourth-year capstone portfolio courses.

After a successful ten year career in advertising, Heather received her Masters Degree in Communication and New Media from McMaster University in 2011. Her thesis investigated images of mothering, as found in ads from Chatelaine magazine from 1918 to 2010. Her ongoing areas of research include evolving commercial photography practice (The New Visual Testimonial: Narrative, Authenticity, and Subjectivity in Emerging Commercial Photography Practice, “Media and Communication”, 2017), and analyses of how the use of advertising imagery has changed throughout the 21st century – for which she has developed a unique methodology.
