Alex Murphy

Faculty, Bachelor of Interior Design

Alex Murphy has been teaching in the Interior Design program at Sheridan since 2004. Alex has studied at the Technical University of Nova Scotia, where he obtained a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies, and at OCAD University where he obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He also holds a Master of Architecture from Dalhousie University.


Before joining Sheridan, Alex taught various Interior Design courses at another college in Ontario. He has also worked in architecture or interior design offices in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Budapest, Hungary, London, England, and Toronto, Canada. Alex has also successfully completed his professional NCIDQ examinations.

Alex has developed courses and taught in all four years of the Bachelor of Interior Design degree. The majority of his teaching focuses on the Advanced Studio courses, Interior Detailing courses, and the first semester of Professional Practices. He is passionate about how the built environment can be an agent for inclusion for diverse and often marginalized communities. He is also very interested in how creative and formal concepts can be developed and experienced spatially.
