Frequently Asked Questions

When will the new facility open?

Construction began in the Fall of 2014, and the majority of the work has been completed for start of the Winter Term on January 9, 2017.

What programs will be offered?

Currently, the Hazel McCallion Campus offers a range of business programs, including four-year degrees in accounting, finance, human resources management, marketing management and supply chain management. Language training and employment preparation programs are also provided for newcomers to Canada.

The new facility will house program clusters in architecture and interior design, creativity and communications, and business, advertising and merchandising.

How is the expansion being funded?

This project has been designated as a design, build and finance development under the Province’s Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) model.

Why is the Hazel McCallion Campus expanding?

Since its opening in September 2011, demand for enrollment spaces at HMC has far exceeded capacity.  The addition of a new facility will increase enrollment capacity and provide a broader range of program opportunities, while bolstering the campus’s role as a hub for creative thinking, innovation, entrepreneurship and collaboration.

What are some of the special attributes of the new building?

  • 28 studios, labs, and production spaces for architecture, interior design and visual merchandising.
  • 29 classrooms
  • 1 bicycle garage and 2 bike room showers
  • 1 Creative Commons
  • 1 public art gallery
  • Designed to meet the Silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standard to ensure a healthy indoor environment and the intelligent use of energy, water and other resources.
