Rather than an enormous list of links, below are the Career Centre's top picks for immediately useful resources to help you plan further education. We've tried to limit it to Canadian sites whenever possible. If you find a site more useful than one of these links, tell us about it

Resources to help you: LOCATE COLLEGE & UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS

The Canada university program locator allows you to select a field of study and specify criteria including province, co-op or not, and keywords. Search results show degree type and include links to the universities' web sites.

Ontario college program locator allows you to select area of study and narrow down by keywords, start date, and other criteria. Search results include program status (open/closed/wait list) and links direct to program info on the colleges' sites. Click on Search for a Program then use Advanced Search.

Career Cruising is an online service we subscribe to which provides Canadian profiles on over 450 careers. Sheridan students (past and current) contact the Career Centre for access username and password then login to Career Cruising, look up a career, then click on the "Education" box in a career profile for details on related programs.

CanLearn is a comprehensive "portal" site that contains original contents and connects you with Canadian resources for planning your post-secondary education. Includes planning & preparation, extensive financial aid & scholarship info, tuition fees databank, links to calendars, campus newspapers, and more.

The Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC) eINFo site offers general program information and detailed admission requirements for Ontario universities. The degree locator feature is an easy way to locate programs and requirements.

Ontario College-University Transfer Guide is a registry of all existing formalized agreements for credit transfer between colleges and universities. Indexed by institutions and programs, search results provide detailed specifics on credits, minimum GPA requirements, etc.

Maclean's University Rankings Sometimes controversial but always of interest, this annual report on Canadian universities offers an informative, objective look complete with evaluations and comparative rankings of factors like prestige, student life, research quality and much more. The site offers sample reports and general university information. The complete rankings guide must be purchased online or at the newsstand or visit the Career Centre and use our reference copy.

Globe Campus A variety of topical news and reports from the Globe and Mail about colleges and universities in canada, including the Canadian University report.

The Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) coordinates applications and admissions to all university degree programs (includes Ontario College of Art & Design), full- and part-time, in Ontario. Out of province, apply direct to the school.

Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) coordinates applications and admissions to certificate, diploma and applied degree programs at colleges in Ontario.

Making sense of prerequisites and applications Choosing a school is hard enough, but making sense of a list of prerequisites and application requirements is another story. What do you include in a great portfolio? What should you include in a great application essay?

The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) provides loans to qualified students who are residents of Ontario for programs within and outside of the province.

Scholarships & Awards database of available scholarships and student financial awards at post-secondary institutions across Canada.

Educational Testing Service is the administrator for a wide variety of academic and post-secondary admission tests used at some universities, especially in the U.S., including: SAT, GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, TOEIC, PRAXIS, AP, SLS & CLEP. Their site provides info on the tests, practice questions, and info on where, when and how to take them.

Canadian Bureau for International Education Virtually everything you need to know about post-secondary education outside of Canada. Includes extensive links and annotated bibliography of Canadian print resources. A great starting point.

Peterson's Guides allows you to search for post-secondary programs and institutions in the U.S. by name, location, program type or length, and much more. Most listings have links to institutions' web sites.

GoAbroad.com is the leading international education and experiential travel resource. Our directories contain over 25,000 opportunities abroad updated daily including study abroad, internships, volunteer opportunities, teach abroad, language schools and much more.

Transworld Education offers information on studying in the U.S., Britain, Australia, and Asia. Also has a dedicated section on studying Media Arts & Design abroad.

The Independent Learning Centre Career Navigator Quizzes is operated TVOntario in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and offers high school credit courses by distance education.

Distance education at Canadian Universities Career Navigator Quizzes Information and searchable database on over 1000 courses available via internet, radio, and other distance media from 15 Ontario universities.

Career Education Sourcebook Career Navigator Quizzes lists private vocational schools and alternative educational institutions located in Canada and several US states, indexed by training centre/school name, category, and geographic location.

The apprenticesearch.com Career Navigator Quizzes provides specific information and facilitates the matching of prospective apprentices and employers within Halton, Peel-Dufferin regions.
