Sheridan Accessible Learning provides the following services to support your academic experience:

  • Learning Strategist:
    • Self Advocacy
    • Provides one on one and small group training in:
      • Time management/organizational skills
      • Textbook reading
      • Essay planning/Writing
      • Studying for tests/test taking techniques
  • Assistive Technologist:
    • Carries out equipment assessments based on student needs
    • Researches and recommends software for individual student needs
    • Provides individualized training and continued support in the use of Assistive Technology
    • Provides practical, transferable skills that will carry over into employment


 

Accommodations

Available Services and Accommodations

Please be advised that this list of services and accommodations is not automatic for every student. Students who are eligible to receive accommodations will meet with Accessible Learning staff to determine the most appropriate accommodations and services available to meet individual needs.

Testing Accommodations Eligibility for extended test time, scribes or readers can be determined in consultation with the Accessible Learning Services Advisor/Counselor. Tests must be booked by contacting Accessible Learning Services seven days in advance of test date.
Notetaking and Photocopying Notes Instructors and/or students may identify notetakers with the assistance of the Accessible Learning Services staff. NCR paper is available through the Accessible Learning Services Office. Photocopying is available as well.
Extended Program (Reduced Program Courseload) Students may reduce the number of courses they take at one time. This may be arranged in consultation with the Program Coordinator, Academic Advisor and Accessible Learning Services.
Interpreters and Computerized Notetaker for the Hearing Impaired Students are entitled to their choice of either Sign Language Interpreting Service or Computerized Notetaking Service. This is arranged through DAccessible Learning Services and George Brown College/Canadian Hearing Society.
Peer Mentors/Tutoring Peer Mentors for organizational issues, time management etc. can be arranged through Accessible Learning Services. Tutors for content-specific material can be arranged through the Career Centre.
Lockers Accessible Learning Services has reserved lockers throughout the College. Please contact our office if you require access to one of these lockers.
Taped Texts/Alternate Format Texts Students requiring books on tape or CD must contact Accessible Learning Services who will place an order for the required materials. Due to copyright laws, students must purchase the book.
Print Enlargements Equipment for enlarging print is available at Accessible Learning Services.
Orientation Students are encouraged to participate in the college-wide orientation. Where required, individual orientations may be arranged in conjunction with Accessible Learning Services.
Specialized Equipment Specialized equipment such as four track recorders and adaptive devices can be accessed through the Accessible Learning Services Office.
Bursary for Students with Disabilities Students must be eligible to receive OSAP in order to qualify for the bursary. Forms must be approved by the Accessible Learning Services Advisor/Counselor and forwarded to Financial Aid for consideration.
Disabled Parking For long-term or permanent disabilities students must obtain a Provincial Disabled Parking Permit issued by the Ministry of Transportation.
