Steps for Obtaining a Psychoeducational Assessment

If you have a suspected learning disability, or if your documentation is outdated (older than 5 years), you will need to obtain a new psychoeducational assessment. This is carried out by a registered psychologist who will provide you with a report that will give a specific diagnosis, along with recommendations for appropriate educational accommodations, strategies assistive technology.

Funding Your Psychoeducational Assessment

Sheridan has the following process for accessing funding for psychoeducational assessments:

Step 1

If you are eligible for OSAP, you will be able to apply for the Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD) which will cover the cost of a psychoeducational assessment
You can apply for OSAP here
The BSWD application is processed with your Accessible Learning Advisor/Counsellor.  Please set up an appointment with your Advisor/Counsellor
NOTE
– You do not need to accept the student loan, but you must be deemed eligible to receive one

Step 2

If you are not eligible for OSAP, your Accessible Learning Adviosr/Counsellor will calculate assessment and equipment costs you might require amd will contact the Financial Aid Office to establish whether this will alter your eligibility for the BSWD

Step 3

If you are not eligible for the BSWD, then another option is:
Parental/Spousal Extended Health Benefit Plan – Some plans can be used for partial or full payment of psychoeducational assessments. Accessible Learning Services can provide you with a form to submit to the plan provider to determine coverage.

Step 4

If you have explored the above options and still require full or partial funding for an assessment, you may apply for a tuition re-investment bursary through the Financial Aid Office. The guidelines for these bursaries, though still based on financial need, are not as stringent as those required for the BSWD.

Step 5

If all of the above options have been explored see your Accessible Learning Advisor/Counsellor to discuss other possible funding options to pay for the required psychoeducational assessment.
