Sheridan's bachelor's degree in design, offered jointly with York University, combines practice and theory to create a truly unique design degree. The program’s rigorous design course sequence emphasizes innovation, creativity and strategic thinking. You’ll develop outstanding ideas as well as the skills to execute them. You’ll also get the practical experience and professional contacts to launch a career in graphic design, product design, digital media, broadcasting or another related field.
Nationally recognized for design education excellence, York/Sheridan produces creative leaders. The story of 21st-century design is being written today — and our Bachelor of Design graduates are helping to write it.
Convergence of Technology and Culture
In York/Sheridan’s design program, you’ll attend courses at both institutions, gaining a broad liberal arts background and rigorous, hands-on studio instruction at both institutions. Program highlights include:
- Small studio classes with lots of direct attention from instructors
- Creative focus and the opportunity to explore new ideas
- Project-based, problem-solving assignments that prepare you for the workplace
- Up-to-date design labs equipped with the most current technology
- Courses in interactive multimedia, information design, and the history of design
The fourth year includes a professional internship in a design firm that may be located in Toronto (the world’s third-largest design centre), New York, Los Angeles or even overseas. Bachelor of Design students should expect to spend approximately $1,000 – $3,000 per year for materials, plus $300 in the final year for the Graduate Show.
The future of design lies in the convergence of technology with elements of social science, psychology, pop culture and business. No other design degree captures that convergence the way Sheridan’s does.
Bachelor of Design courses are held at the Trafalgar Road Campus in Oakville, Ontario, and at York University in Toronto.
Over the past three years, 96% of Sheridan Bachelor of Design graduates have found industry-related employment. Ontario harbours half of the visual communication design firms in Canada, and nearly half of the digital media businesses, so there is tremendous local demand for talent - and employers actively seek out Sheridan graduates. Our alumni work in such industries as:
- Branding
- Corporate identity / communications
- Web design
- Multimedia
- Product packaging
- Book-jacket design
- Magazine design
- Exhibit design
- Retail / merchandising
