Computer Systems Technology - Systems Analyst

Graduation Year: 2010

Graham Kennery is a Web Application Developer at Thrillworks Inc. The Burlington-based web services firm counts Tim Hortons, Petro Canada and Pet Valu among its clients.

What is your most memorable Sheridan experience?

My co-op position at the Peel District School Board involved developing applications that were seen by every teacher and principal working for the board. It was such a great feeling to get feedback directly from users and to know that my work was making a difference.

What brought you to the college?

The program (co-op element), the location (close to home) and a strong recommendation from my family. My older brother Ryan graduated from the Print Journalism program and is a Past President of the Sheridan Student Union.

What is the most important lesson you learned at Sheridan?

Co-op is the best experience you can get in college. If your program offers it, get out there and find a job as soon as you can, particularly something you think you’ll enjoy. The people at the Career Center and Co-op office will fine-tune your resumé, prepare you for interviews, and direct you to all of the employment resources at your disposal.

What led you to pursue a career in IT?

A life-long passion for technology and a drive to take on new challenges, specifically those related to programming and software development. My love of all things technical has led to a side interest in photography which I am slowly developing into a business.

What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your work?

The more challenging aspects of a job can be the most fulfilling. I love breaking down a particularly difficult problem and working out the best, most efficient, solution. There’s no feeling like solving something you’ve spent hours (or sometimes days) on.

How do you distinguish yourself from other recent computer technology grads?

I always push myself to learn new technologies and to adapt to whatever a situation needs. I believe that my passion for technology will always prepare me for any career opportunities.
