Starting at Sheridan

Students can get a head start on their Sheridan experience by taking advantage of these programs and services before starting classes.

New Student Orientation

Orientation is a one-day event designed to assist your student in making their transition to Sheridan. It gives them an opportunity to explore the campus, complete start-of-school tasks, connect with faculty, meet key members of the Sheridan team and learn more about the services available to support them.

First Year Connections Program

First Year Connections (FYC) pairs your student with a Peer Mentor (a current senior student) to help ensure a smooth transition to Sheridan. Peer Mentors will answer questions, share their Sheridan experiences and insight, provide your student with important information, host activities where your student can meet other Sheridan students and much more. If your student is interested in joining the FYC program, please encourage them to email us at fyc@sheridaninstitute.ca

Academic Calendar Dates

Sheridan's academic calendar provides important dates that you and your student should know – term start dates, withdrawal and refund deadlines, holiday schedules and more.

Term Startup Page

To make sure your student gets the service he or she needs, as quickly as possible, the term startup page provides comprehensive information and resources to help students start the semester smoothly.

Language Assessment

A mandatory Language Assessment is a required component of some programs. Students who are required to take Essential Communication Skills (ECS) as part of their program must first complete a Language Assessment prior to the start of classes so they can be placed into the appropriate communications skills course. This communications course will help your child develop the written and spoken communication and presentation skills their future employers tell us they will need. This course will also help students develop the academic writing skills they will need throughout their program.
