About the Motorcycle M1 to M2 License Course

The riding portion of the course will be done on motorcycles provided by local dealers. Learn:
- basic skills of putting on a helmet
- walking the motorcycle
- balancing and braking
- kick and electric starting
- moving off and stopping
- gear shifting
- how to ride through curves safely and in control
- slow speed skills useful in parking lots and heavy traffic
- acceleration and deceleration in curves and straight-aways
- signaling
- defensive traffic behaviour including shoulder checks, and lane positional skills
- life saving emergency skills (swerving, braking and decision making)
At the end of the motorcycle training session students will be given a skill test. Individuals who pass this test receive a graduation card. Students with a Class M1 will receive documentation to allow MTO to endorse their permit as a Class M2 after the 60-day minimum time they stay in Class M1.
What to Bring:
- A valid Class "M1", "M2" or "M" driver's permit.
- All students must be 16 years of age or older to take the course (please provide proof of age). Students under 18 must bring a parent or guardian to the first class to sign the release waiver. (Waivers can be signed during the first 15 minutes of class.)
- Helmets can be supplied if required, but students are urged to bring their own.
- As the course operates rain or shine, you should bring rain gear.
- For the riding portion of the course (all day Saturday and Sunday) students must wear:
- sturdy boots that cover the ankle (leather is preferred - NO RUNNING SHOES)
- sturdy pants
- jacket and gloves
- eye protection (recommended)
For safety reasons, students who are not wearing the appropriate equipment will not be permitted to ride and will be withdrawn from the course. If students are withdrawn from the course under these circumstances, they will not be entitled to a refund of fees.
Curriculum
The motorcycle course runs one Thursday evening from 6 - 10 pm (theory portion) and the following Saturday and Sunday from 8 am - 5:30 pm (riding portion). You must attend all classes in their entirety, as scheduled, to continue in the course. Plan to arrive early for each class. Lateness will result in dismissal from the course. Courses are offered during the Spring, Summer and early Fall (April to October).

Course Location:
Sheridan's Motorcycle Training Program is offered at two locations; Oakville and Brampton. The program consists of a four-hour theory portion which is taught in the classroom on Thursday evening from 6-10 pm and a 16-hour riding portion which is taught in the parking lot on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am - 5:30 pm.
Brampton Course - Theory and Riding Portion: Sheridan , Davis Campus, 7899 McLaughlin Road (corner of McLaughlin Road and Steeles Avenue). Room numbers for the Thursday evening Brampton classes will be posted in the Davis Campus.
Oakville Course - Theory and Riding Portion: Sheridan, 1430 Trafalgar Road (north of the QEW, south of Upper Middle Road). Room numbers for the Thursday evening Oakville classes will be posted in the Trafalgar Campus.
Fees: $479.00
**Payment by VISA/MC will be accepted for Online registration only**. Those preferring not to use online registration may register in-person or through postal mail. In person payment can be done using debit/cash, money order/certified cheque. Mail registration payment can be done by money order or certified cheque.
Note: Seniors rates do not apply to the Motorcycle courses.
Course Transfers:
Students may transfer to another Motorcycle Training course offering, if enrollment permits. This request must be received 48 hours prior to the start date of the course you are registered in. It is not possible to transfer mid-way through a course or with less than 48 hours notice prior to the start date.
Withdrawal and Refund Policy
We require 48 hours notice of withdrawal in order to obtain a refund (less a $30 administration fee). Note: There is no refund with less than 48 hours notice. Please ensure that you are available to attend all three dates of the course that you have registered for.
